I’ll never forget the day everything shifted.

I had just finished speaking to a group of student-athletes—pouring into them about leadership, culture, character, and what it really takes to build a winning mindset. As the auditorium cleared out, a man walked straight toward me with purpose in his stride.

He introduced himself as the Senior Vice President of a Fortune 500 company.
Then he said something that shifted the trajectory of my career:

“Are you a professional speaker? You have a gift.”

I’d always been passionate about impact.
I’d always cared about the message.
But this moment made me pause, reflect, and evaluate the magnitude of what I carried.

He told me his daughter had attended an event I led earlier in the year, and she couldn’t stop talking about the way I taught and the way I connected. He had come to see it for himself.

Then he asked a question that changed the course of my career:

“Would you come speak to my executive team about the same principles you shared with the athletes—how to build and sustain a winning culture?”

In that moment, I realized something powerful:

Leadership principles don’t just live in the locker room.
They transcend the classroom, the boardroom, and every environment where people want to win.

He saw that.
He valued that.
And he trusted me to bring that message into a boardroom filled with decision-makers.

That opportunity became my first major speaking client—a Fortune 500 company I still serve as a consultant to this day.

All because someone recognized my gift before I recognized the full magnitude of it myself.
